The Rains, the Aloo Chops and Bong Mom

Nothing can beat a just-out-of-the-stove aloochop accompanied with a cup of hot-steaming-darjeeling tea on a rainy-Sunday-afternoon.

Recently read  food blogger Sandeepa Mukherjee Datta's book Bong Mom Cookbook. I am an avid reader of her blog http://www.bongcookbook.com/ and was impatiently waiting to hold the book. Its her first attempt as an author and she is just marvellous. She has woven a fine tale over the great bong food. The AlooChops are from her book. I have tweaked them a bit to our family taste.

Ingredients: 3 large potatoes, green chilli, cumin seeds, cumin powder, red chilli powder, hing, ginger paste, mustard oil, salt to taste
For the batter : besan, flour, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, salt, baking powder, water for mixing

Preparation:
Boil and mash the potatoes. Now add 2 tsp oil in a kadai and add cumin seeds. When the oil gets suitably heated add a pinch of hing, ginger paste and the potato mash. Add salt, cumin powder , green chilli pieces, red chilli powder and saute for sometime. When its thoroughly mixed add a half teaspoon oil and remove from heat.

Make a smooth batter with the ingredients mentioned for the batter.

Now make small flat patty with the aloo mix, dip in batter and deep fry in mustard oil.

For Sandeepa's version of Aloo Chops you can read her book.
